There are a variety of areas where people can contribute to the community. Opportunities include being involved in military volunteerism; continuing the hospitaller tradition which has been associated with helping the sick and needy; promoting the principles of chivalry and most importantly perpetuating Christian principles in action.

Fundraising and giving
Fundraising supports a variety of public, community, cultural and not-for-profit health, relief, aid, welfare and drug and alcohol recovery programs.

Donations from the organisation are made into a variety social welfare causes, with one hundred precent of money raised through specific Bendigo Bank Community Bank accounts given to specific organisations, including a Western Victoria drug and alcohol family support program, a palliative care and respite service/hospice with sound and medically approved principles named Anam Cara (in line with previous work of the Sovereign Order of St John of Jerusalem) and other community programs and organisations.
Preceptory also has worked with RSL sub-branches, Scouts and other similar organisations supporting their activities and helping with research projects.
